Indonesia Records 69th Confirmed Human Case of Avian Influenza
JAKARTA, September 29, 2006 – The Health Ministry confirmed today that a 21-year-old woman who lives in Tulung Agung, East Java, has tested positive for the H5N1 avian influenza virus. The woman is the sister of an 11-year-old boy who died of H5N1 influenza on September 18, also in Tulung Agung. The 21-year-old woman is being treated in dr. Sutomo Hospital in Surabaya, East Java.

68th Human Case of Avian Influenza Confirmed in Indonesia
JAKARTA, September 26, 2006 — The Ministry of Health confirmed today that a 20-year-old man in Bandung, West Java, has H5N1 avian influenza. The man is currently being treated in Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung. This is the 68th and most recent confirmed human case of avian influenza in Indonesia. According to ministry officials, the man's 15-year-old sister is also in hospital with suspected avian influenza. Specimens from the girl are now being tested at the Ministry of Health National Research and Development Laboratory, also known as Litbangkes. The results are expected later this week. Both the man and his sister are being treated with the anti-viral drug oseltamivir.

JAKARTA, September 25, 2006An integrated government team is at work in South Jakarta, responding to Indonesia’s most recent confirmed case of human avian influenza, a 9-year-old boy who died on September 22.  The team, comprising members from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture Avian Influenza Campaign Management Unit, the Jakarta Husbandry, Fisheries and Marine Agency, as well as the Jakarta Health Agency is working to determine the source of the infection and the appropriate response. The team is also checking for other possible human cases.

Indonesia Launches Avian Flu Public Awareness Campaign and New Komnas FBPI Office
JAKARTA, September 1, 2006 – Indonesia is launching a new national campaign to raise public awareness about avian influenza right across the archipelago. The “Tanggap Flu Burung!” campaign informs Indonesians about effective steps they can take to reduce the risk of contracting the H5N1 virus. The campaign will include television and radio spots, billboard ads, leaflets and other media.The Indonesia National Committee for Avian Influenza Control and Pandemic Influenza Preparedness (Komnas FBPI) Secretariat is also being officially launched today.
