Banten Province Steps Up Bird Flu Program As Deadly Virus Claims New Victim
Jakarta, 11 July 2007 - Hundreds of residents of Curug village were joined by senior officials and UNICEF representatives today for the provincial launch of the Avian Influenza  (AI) Kit – a simple tool that helps empower people to join the fight against bird flu. The kit includes a mask, gloves, soap, educational materials and videos about bird flu prevention. This plus a giant banner that each village can put up to remind people to be careful.

Banten Latest Bird Flu Case Confirmed
Jakarta, 9 July 2007 - Ministry of Health  A 6-year-old boy, identified as “SZ” from BPI Complex Block P No. 14, Panggung Rawi sub district, Cilegon district, Banten has died of H5N1 Avian Influenza. Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction  (RT-PCR) tests conducted by the Research and Development Center of the Ministry of Health and at the Eijkman Insitute in Jakarta on July 9, 2007 confirmed that SZ was infected by the H5N1 virus.

Indonesia’s New Avian Influenza Human Case
Jakarta, July 9 , 2007 -  A new case of Avian Influenza was confirmed Monday. SZ , a 6.5 year-old boy from Cilegon Municipality, Banten Province, tested positive of H5N1 virus based on a result of tests conducted by the Research and Development Center of the Ministry of Health. The Jakarta-based Eijkman Insitute laboratory also confirmed that SZ was infected by H5N1.
