Increased funding, resolve fuel Indonesian bird-flu war in 2007
Jakarta, 29 December 2006- Increased funding and a resolve to bring an end to human H5N1 influenza cases will fuel an ambitious bird flu program in 2007, the head of Indonesia' s bird flu coordinating body announced today. " For 2007, the war continues," vowed Mr. Bayu Krisnamurthi, Chief Executive Officer of Indonesia' s National Committee for Avian Influenza Control and Pandemic Influenza Preparedness (Komnas FBPI). " By the end of next year, we want to see an end to new human H5N1 cases."

16 Suspect Cases in North Aceh Test Negative for Bird Flu
Jakarta, December 21, 2006, Ministry of Health - Tests conducted at laboratories at the Ministry of Health Research and Development Center and NAMRU-2, using RT-PCR (Real Time-Polymirase Chain Reaction) and serology, have shown that samples taken from 16 suspect human H5N1 influenza cases in North Aceh regency are negative for the H5N1 avian influenza virus.

Based on testing of samples taken from the 16 patients treated at Cut Meutia Hospital, one of the patients has tested positive for type A Influenza (common flu), and two patients are positive for type B Influenza (common flu).

“Beat the Bird Flu!” is the theme of the month long campaign which aims to help get important information about avian influenza to the public in order to help stop the spread of the H5N1 virus.
