93rd, 94th AI cases confirmed in Indonesia
Jakarta, 9 April 2007, Ministry of Health- RJ, a 15-year-old girl who lived in
Central Jakarta, has tested positive for the H5N1 virus. She died on Thursday, April 5, 2007 at 05.10 p.m. She had her onset on March 28, 2007 and was hospitalized in St Carolus Hospital, Central Jakarta since March 30, 2007 and in
Sulianti Saroso Infection Hospital since April 2, 2007.
In the same day, at 03.00 a.m., Sur (m, 29 years), who lived in Sukoharjo District, Central Java died because of an AI infection. He had displayed AI symptoms since March 27, 2007 and was hospitalized in Dr. Moewardi Hospital, Solo since March 30, 2007. The RT-PCR (Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction) Test of laboratories of National Institute of Health Research and Development (Balitbangkes) MOHRI and Eijkman Institute confirm that he was positive of AI infection.
RJ had contact with birds. On March 18, 19 and 20, 2007, many chickens of his neighbor at RT 03 RW 01, Sapen Village, Mojolaban Subdistrict, Sukoharjo, had suddenly died.
Therefore, the AI toll in Indonesia now stands at 94 confirmed cases, including 74 fatalities. The number of provinces that have reported human H5N1 cases has also increased to 10 provinces, with the confirmation of one case from Palembang, South Sumatera, which is M (f, 22) who died on March 24, 2007.
DKI Jakarta has the second most AI cases of any province, after West Java. Between 1 January-7 April 2007, there have been 6 people in Jakarta and 2 people in Central Java infected by AI. The 5th case in Central Java died on January 19, 2007.
