The 92nd AI Case in Indonesia

Jakarta, 9 April 2007, Ministry of Health- A new case of Avian Influenza (AI) has been confirmed in the DKI Jakarta region. S (f, 23 years) was confirmed to be positive for the H5N1 virus as a result of a PCR Test conducted at the National Institute of Health Research and Development (Litbangkes) MOHRI on April 2, 2007 and a second test at the Laboratory of the Eijkman Molecular Biological Institute, Jakarta on April 3, 2007. This latest case raises the number of confirmed AI case in Indonesia, as of April 3, 2007, to 92 cases, including 72 people fatalities. The Case Fatality Rate (CFR) is 78.26%.

S (f, 23 years) who lived in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, onset on March 28, 2007 with symptoms of fever, cough and diarrhea. On March 31, 2007, she went to Islam Hospital, Cempaka Putih, experiencing worsening conditions and difficulty in breathing. She was referred to Persahabatan Hospital at 07.30 p.m. the following day. According to observation in Persahabatan Hospital, her leucosit was low and her x-ray showed pneumonia. On the same day, she died at 07.50 p.m. She had had contact with birds (raising eagles). Therefore, the total number of AI cases in DKI Jakarta is now 24 cases, including 21 fatalities.

AI distribution in Indonesia until April 3, 2007, is: West Java (29 cases, 23 dead), DKI Jakarta (24 cases, 21 dead), Banten (12 cases, 10 dead), North Sumatera (7 cases, 6 dead), East Java (7 cases, 5 dead), Central Java (5 cases, 4 dead), Lampung (3 cases, alive), South Sulawesi (1 case, dead), West Sumatera (3 cases, 1 dead) and South Sumatera (1 case, dead).
