First of all I would like to thank you for taking the time to inform your community about avian influenza and the impact it could have on all of us unless we take action now. I urge you to tell your neighbors about the risks and how to lower their chances of contracting the virus.

Our nation now has more bird flu cases than any other country in the world. Not only has it claimed dozens of lives but it has also hurt many people who have lost their flocks due to this deadly virus.  Children are especially vulnerable and should not be allowed to come into contact with poultry. They need our protection.

The virus is spread from poultry to humans. But experts fear that if we do not take action now, it could change/mutate and spread from person to person and that could mean that many more people could become infected. That is why we must all do our best to control the spread of bird flu and protect our families, our communities and our nation.

These AI kits are a simple way to inform your communities about bird flu. It is also a chance for everyone to discuss the issue and find ways to solve it. I urge you to take this opportunity and play an important role in reducing this threat. The bird flu problem cannot be solved unless we all work together and take action now. The commitment you make today could save many, many lives.

Seven Steps to Taking Action!
  1. Call a meeting of your community
  2. Tell your neighbors about the bird flu issue. Inform them about the threat.
  3. Ask people what they know about bird flu and if they are doing anything about it.
  4. Read the 4 main messages on the “hand”. Ask people if they are doing any of these actions.
  5. Then use the booklet to explain about proper disposal. Demonstrate using the mask, gloves and soap and what you can use if you do not have them available. If you have access to a VCD player you can show the video.
  6. Discuss how your community can take action.
  7. Decide when you will put your plan into action and put up your banner !
